Sky Q Question
I won't bore you with the details of why I ask but.....

Does anyone know if live football can be viewed using a Q box without broadband connection?

Sky seem to suggest that it can't.

Re: Sky Q Question
Just before Christmas we had no broadband for four days,a problem with the BT line, and could watch all of our Sky Q channels.Only thing we couldn’t get was the programme guide or any of the info at the bottom of the screen but we could get all the channels ok and the stuff we had recorded. This was on our main tv,in the living room which is connected to the dish outside. We couldn’t get anything on our sky q mini box, which is in the kitchen, because that sky feed is via our wifi

Re: Sky Q Question
All live TV comes through the Satellite Dish
BB is required for Catchup On Demand, Netflix and other streaming sites.

With the exception of 1TB non-UHD boxes, up to 2 minis will stream Sky content simultaneously, the main box will always work.

A third and fourth mini will still show Netflix, Amazon etc. just not Sky

I always thought the channels like movies and sports came through the satellite dish!

Re: Sky Q Question
4 is max.. can only watch two different at same time.

On the main question, my broadband was down the other day and I was still able to watch the darts live so I don't see any reason why it would be different for football

They can also be connected by ethernet

The mini boxes actually connect to your main box by wifi (which is what I suspect Rcik meant!).

I've got three mini boxes which I believe is the limit. Occasionally I'll get a message saying that too many are on, but they never are. We've definitely had two mini boxes on at the same time as the main box before (all with different channels), but not all three.

It's pretty much down to the strength of your wifi - I'm pretty certain that my router is faulty so I do get moments of no connection.

Brit

The mini boxes connect to your tv by hdmi. The box looks for the main box on your network. As far as I understand you can only watch different channels on main box and one mini box at a time; so if you’re watching the main box and someone is watching on one mini box and third person cannot watch their mini box. However I think this differs depending on which main box you have

Another question...

With the mini boxes can you view different channels in different rooms without having to hardwire them?

Much obliged Joseph.

Re: Sky Q Question
Correct - although I think you can do it via the engineering menu come to think of it (I found that out after)

Will check it out tomorrow, for now it is time to have a drink

No option to enter network settings manually and didn't scan for available networks?

Re: Sky Q Question
Something else I just remembered - it was impossible to get the box to forget the hotspot network. Once that was added, that was it - no option to change it to a new network once my broadband was up and running. Had to factory reset the box - thus losing my recordings.

Not sure if this has been fixed in later software releases as I learned my lesson and everything is hardwired now

Good work Joe C, much obliged.

Re: Sky Q Question
Oh, and that’s only for the main box. Any mini boxes won’t work unless the main is is connected to the internet

Re: Sky Q Question
Yes - with caveats

It needs an internet connection to update the TV guide, and you can’t play something without selecting it from said guide.

When we moved house we were without a broadband connection for a couple of weeks, so I set my phone as a hotspot and connected the main Sky Q box to that - guide updated and I turned the hotspot off. Did that every few days
